How We Use GPT-6 Astra to Ship Faster Websites
Inside the Stalite build process: where GPT-6 Astra genuinely speeds up a React and Next.js website project, where we keep humans in control, and what it means for your timeline.
Methodology & local context
This playbook is based on Stalite Media's founder-led work with Mumbai brands, local campaign audits and website builds from our Oshiwara office. Any benchmark ranges are planning guidance, not guaranteed outcomes.
Clients ask us a fair question: if AI writes code now, why does a website still take six weeks? The honest answer is that GPT-6 Astra, released on 3 September 2026, has genuinely compressed parts of a build - and left other parts exactly as slow as they were. This is a transparent look at where we use it inside a React and Next.js project at our Oshiwara studio, what it changed about our timelines, and the guardrails we will not remove.
What Astra actually changed
Astra's gains over the previous generation are concentrated in long agentic work - terminal use, computer use, browser automation and multi-file code changes. In practice that means it can hold an entire codebase in context, propose a refactor that spans thirty files, run the build, read the failure and try again without a human re-explaining the project every few minutes. That is a real change in kind, not a faster autocomplete.
| Build phase | AI role | Human role |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery and positioning | Mines competitor sites, reviews and call transcripts at scale | Decides the strategy and the promise - this is not delegated |
| Information architecture | Drafts sitemap options against keyword and intent data | Chooses the structure, kills the pages that exist only for SEO |
| UX / UI design | Generates layout variants and copy-length pressure tests | Every interface decision. Design is judgement, not generation |
| Component build | Scaffolds typed components, tests and Storybook entries | Reviews every line, owns architecture and state |
| Accessibility and SEO pass | Audits landmarks, headings, alt text, schema, metadata | Fixes and verifies against real assistive tech |
| Performance tuning | Flags bundle bloat, unused CSS, image and font issues | Makes the trade-offs that hit 95+ Core Web Vitals |
| QA | Writes and runs regression and visual tests | Signs off on real devices |
Three places it saves real days
- Migration and refactor work. Moving a legacy site to a modern React or Next.js stack used to be the slowest, least creative part of a project. Astra reads the old codebase in full and produces a mapped migration plan rather than a file-by-file guess.
- Test coverage. We now ship with regression and accessibility tests on every project because generating them is no longer a budget conversation. That is a quality win clients feel six months later, not on launch day.
- SEO and schema plumbing. Canonical logic, JSON-LD, sitemap generation, prerender routes - deterministic work with a clear spec, verified by an automated test suite. Our own site's SEO tests are exactly this pattern.
AI made the plumbing cheap. It did not make taste cheap. The six weeks are no longer spent typing - they are spent deciding.
The guardrails we will not remove
- No generated code ships unreviewed. Every pull request is read by a human who can explain each line to you.
- No AI-generated design. Layout, hierarchy and motion are human decisions - generated interfaces look like everyone else's, and looking like everyone else is a conversion problem.
- Facts get verified. Astra's knowledge stops at 30 April 2026, so anything about current framework versions, platform policies or pricing is checked against live sources.
- You own the code. Full repository handover, no template lock-in, no plugin dependency trap - unchanged by any of this.
- Client data stays in business-tier workspaces with training disabled. It never touches a personal account.
What it means for your project
Timelines have tightened, not collapsed. A marketing site that took eight weeks now takes five to six, and the extra time goes into performance and conversion work rather than into invoicing fewer hours. Test coverage and accessibility auditing are now standard rather than an upsell. The two phases that still set the pace are discovery and design sign-off - and those are the two you should want a human on, because they decide whether the site converts.
One more consequence worth planning for: as AI assistants become a discovery surface in their own right, your site needs to be readable by machines as well as people. Clean semantic HTML, real server-rendered content, accurate schema and a crawlable structure are now how you get cited inside an AI answer. We build for that by default.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use AI to build client websites?
Yes, for scaffolding, migration planning, test generation, SEO plumbing and audits - always under human review. Design, architecture decisions and final code approval stay with our team. No generated code ships without a developer who can explain every line of it.
Does using GPT-6 Astra make my website cheaper or faster?
Faster, mostly. A marketing site that took eight weeks now typically takes five to six, and regression plus accessibility testing is now included as standard rather than an upsell. Pricing reflects strategy, design and performance work, which AI has not made cheaper.
Is AI-generated code safe for a production website?
Only with review. We treat model output as a first draft: every pull request is human-reviewed, typed, tested and benchmarked against 95+ Core Web Vitals before it ships. Unreviewed generated code is how sites end up with silent accessibility failures and security gaps.
Will my website still rank if everyone is using AI to build sites?
Ranking now depends on being readable by both people and machines: server-rendered content, clean semantic HTML, accurate structured data and genuinely useful writing. Sites built from generated templates and generated prose look identical to each other, which is exactly why they do not get cited in AI answers or rank well.
